Business Setup

Business setup in Dubai, structured around how you actually trade

Choosing between mainland, free zone and offshore decides your ownership, your visa quota, where you can invoice and what you pay every year. We advise on the structure first, then file the whole formation — trade name, initial approval, MOA, licence, establishment card and visas — as one managed engagement.

Mainland, free zone or offshore

Each route suits a different trading pattern, and the cheapest licence is rarely the right one.

  • Mainland (DET and other emirate departments): trade anywhere in the UAE, bid for government work, unlimited visa quota subject to office space.
  • Free zone: 100% ownership, simplified reporting, strong for consultancy, e-commerce, holding and export activity.
  • Offshore: holding and asset-protection vehicles with no UAE residence visas attached.
  • Dual licence and branch structures where you need both mainland reach and free zone incentives.

What the formation covers

One consultant owns your file from the advisory call to the moment you can invoice.

  • Activity selection and trade name reservation with the relevant authority.
  • Initial approval, MOA drafting, notarisation and licence issuance.
  • Ejari or flexi-desk arrangement matched to your visa quota.
  • Establishment card, investor visa, medical and Emirates ID.
  • Corporate tax and VAT registration where thresholds apply.
  • Compliance-ready bank application file and introductions to UAE banks.

Costs quoted honestly

Every proposal separates government fees, quoted at cost with receipts, from our professional fees. You see the annual renewal cost before you commit, not after the first licence is issued.

Frequently asked questions

How long does business setup in Dubai take?

A free zone company is usually licensed within 3 to 7 working days once documents are complete. Mainland formation typically takes 7 to 14 working days depending on the activity and any external approvals required.

Can a foreigner own 100% of a Dubai company?

Yes. Free zone companies have always allowed full foreign ownership, and most mainland commercial and professional activities now permit 100% foreign ownership without a local partner.

Do I need an office to set up a company?

Mainland licences require a tenancy registered through Ejari, which can be a small office or a business centre unit. Free zones offer flexi-desk packages that satisfy the licence requirement at a lower cost.

Do I have to be in the UAE to start?

No. Name reservation, initial approval and licence issuance can proceed remotely with attested documents and a power of attorney. You need to attend in person for medical testing, Emirates ID biometrics and most bank account openings.
